Podcast News Bites: Advertising Week, Listen Notes, Benztown, ‘The Daily.’ – Inside Radio

Advertising Week organizers are gearing up for this fall’s show and audio is expected to have a bigger stage at this year’s event. Richard Larsson, Advertising Week’s Head of Podcasting, told Marketing Brew, that this year will be the first time that podcasting will have its own track a the conference. “I don’t think there’s any single topic like this that has garnered as much attention this year on an increasing basis than last,” he said. “It’s been phenomenal how many partners are interested in podcasting.” There is no word on panel specifics so far, but Larssons said the aim will be to “demonstrate the power of this medium.” Advertising Week runs Oct. 17-20 in New York.

…The podcast directory Listen Notes is expanding its business into podcast hosting. The company says it will launch the service in the fall and it is currently inviting shows to join its wait list. Listen Notes says it will also offer custom domains for RSS feeds and unlimited storage and downloads. There is no announcement yet on how much it will charge.

…The New York Times-produced daily news podcast The Daily is killing off its weekly newsletter. “Don’t worry — The Daily podcast isn’t going anywhere, and New York Times Audio will continue to develop robust and wide-ranging audio programming that aims to help listeners understand the world,” the team wrote in its final email blast. The Daily’s first email hit inboxes in February 2019.

…Radio personalities continue to settle into the interview hotseat for new episodes of Benztown’s Chachi Loves Everybody podcast. The latest episodes feature Benztown President Dave “Chachi” Denes in conversation with Audacy Director of Imaging and Sound Design Jake Kaplan and iHeart AC “106.7 Lite FM” WLTW New York morning co-host Christine Nagy. In Chachi’s chat with Nagy, she talks about what it was like to witness 9/11 live from Elvis Duran’s morning show on sister CHR “Z-100” WHTZ. In Kaplan’s episode, he shares how he went from answering phone calls at a local studio in Seattle to being one of the most influential sound designers in radio.
